Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Commodity Manager of electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical components to join our high performing Strategic Sourcing Team in Burbank, CA.

Commodity Manager Position Summary:

In support of all Solutions and Site Operations, lead cross functional team to achieve Cost, Quality, Supplier / Customer On-Time Delivery and support Inventory objectives.

Leadership of commodity sourcing strategy, contract initiation and negotiation, supplier development, overall recurring supply chain performance improvement and problem solving.

Regular collaboration and support of Group Site and Solution initiatives while ensuring full compliance of government, commercial and Crane sourcing policies and procedures.

This role will have direct reporting supervision of one Procurement Specialist.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives, best practices, and strategies for the Aerospace & Electronics Group, ensuring effective implementation and execution.

  • Ensure commodity team maintains a focus on overall globally sourced commodities with an understanding and accountability of the results needed to meet Group Solutions/Site requirements.

  • Support enterprise initiatives by developing sourcing strategies ensuring migration into existing supply chain with minimum interruption and maximum cost reduction.

  • Lead efforts in supplier performance improvement based on scorecards and internal metrics.

  • Ensure Sourcing Tollgate Process is followed for meeting continuous improvement initiatives including On Time Delivery (OTD), Quality, Inventory, PPI, lead time reduction.

  • Manage team members in the creation & execution of action plans as required to successfully qualify new supplier solutions and ensure successful manufacturing transitions

  • Create and lead cross functional teams on select commodities to effectively address all facets of sourcing process and results through Product Development, OEM and Aftermarket product phases.

  • Reach out to site tactical supply chain teams to ensure coordination & collaboration for successful implementation of sourcing strategies & initiatives

  • Lead team in the negotiation of select long term agreements to maximize value from supply base

  • Lead large scale Bill of Materials (BOM) and program cost savings in support of Solutions initiatives.

  • Develop strategic relationships with targeted suppliers

  • Review and ensure that the appropriate financial metrics are monitored and that proper fiscal controls are in place.

  • Lead performance improvement using overall leadership experience.

  • Additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related field.

  • MBA is a plus.

Experience :

  • Ten (10) + years’ experience in Strategic Sourcing, Commodity Management or Strategic Supply Chain in a manufacturing environment required.

Knowledge :

  • Experience in Aerospace industry is highly desired

  • Knowledge of FAR, DFAR, and ITAR regulations preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel)

  • Experienced with Oracle (or other) MRP/ERP system is desired

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices/tools

  • Demonstrated success to develop and execute comprehensive supply chain strategies, commodity strategies, and action plans

  • Ability to develop, lead, and motivate cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to resolve problems quickly using outside the box thinking and creative problem solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Ability to influence and drive change and accountability

  • Ability to manage competing interests while maintaining a sense of urgency and to meet frequent short timeline, goals, and deadlines

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills


  • Strategic Sourcing or Commodity Management experience with Hydro-Mechanical and/or Electro-Mechanical Hardware, Bearings and Seals is highly desired.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Must be a US Person under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to be eligible for this position.
