The Test Engineer III works under minimal supervision and uses established processes to design, coordinate, and direct engineering test projects under the guidance of internal and external customers and test engineering manager. Typical tasks also include designing, setting-up and running engineering tests, generating various test procedures, project coordination with other departments, vendors and test agencies, and provide technical supervision and guidance to test technicians.
Provide technical support and planning of bid packages when required
Design test equipment, test systems and test procedures from written or verbal specifications; Select and procure equipment necessary to obtain desired results and accuracy; Build equipment and perform testing to maintain test schedules; Perform detailed calculations to establish test equipment specifications and design margins; Anticipate and mitigate unexpected and potentially hazardous events that could occur during a test.
Design, code and debug computer/data acquisition systems necessary for automated testing; Perform written documentation, configuration control, and validation of all software generated; Write software for test data analysis
Support Production in design of new test equipment and error proofing of existing test equipment
Review Crane Aerospace & Electronics and customer test procedures for completeness and to ensure desired results are obtainable, that schedule and cost are controlled.
Provide estimate of hours necessary to perform test activities
Provide design package consisting of written description, detailed wiring and schematics, pictures, component lists, etc., such that test equipment and test systems can be accurately reconstructed; Assure that test data generated is neat, organized, accurate, and archived properly
Actively engage in 5S practices to ensure a clean, neat, organized, and efficient working environment (Test Lab and office area); Direct and participate in housekeeping practices; Assure proper storage and management of test equipment
Write operating procedures, testing procedures, and test reports; Adhere to company procedures (safety procedures, dept. procedures, guidelines of conduct, etc.)
Define/understand/comply with company and regulatory guidelines to assure safe operating environment
Experience: 5+ years of related experience.
Knowledge: Software development and verification knowledge and experience using computer science or engineering principals. Documentation, requirements development, requirements analysis, requirements verification and test procedure development; Communication Interfaces (e.g. ARINC429, CAN, RS232, I2C ...); Microprocessor / Microcontroller design; Analog Circuit Design; Digital Circuit Design; Automated test systems. Familiar with a variety of engineering and instrumentation concepts, practices, and procedures; including system design and programming of data acquisition systems. Familiarity with Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Project Schedules.
Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals based on experience and judgment Ability to generate engineering schematics and diagrams. Ability to effectively utilize different problem solving techniques. Demonstrated ability to apply good interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to effectively lead and/or participate in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment. Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and flexibility to switch between tasks.
Education/Certification: Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, physics or related technical discipline required.
