Essential Job Functions

The Technical Writer participates in the development of documentation for aerospace products including electronic, electromechanical, or hydromechanical devices. Typical projects may include preparation of engineering technical data for hardware and software; testing procedures and reports; or proposals and presentations. In addition, the Technical Writer may support submittal of documents to customers, or other departmental functions as assigned.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a wide variety of engineering technical documents in support of customer requirements

  • Meet quality standards including technical accuracy and acceptance by the customer.

  • Edit or create digital illustrations to accompany written materials.

  • Deliver documents within budget and critical schedule commitments.

  • Schedule and track all assigned tasks using the designated task management tool(s). Identify and elevate delays caused by subject matter experts or others.

  • Comply with established writing and illustration styles, corporate standards, and customer requirements.

  • Participate in engineering working group meetings, presentations, customer audits, and formal design reviews as assigned.

  • Perform the submittal of documents and data to external customers for approval, track customer dispositions, and support follow-ups for aging submittals.

  • Plan and carry out assignments with a moderate level of direction and supervision.

  • Understand and apply corporate export compliance and intellectual property protection policies.

  • High level of detail orientation and technical accuracy, balanced with high productivity.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for collaborating with many internal customers, often under pressure of schedule deadlines.

  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment while coordinating multiple tasks with changing priorities.

  • Able to use and enforce engineering documentation and illustration standards to produce output that complies with format and content requirements.

  • Working knowledge of electronics technology is desirable, including theories of electrical circuit operation, testing procedures, calibration, and technical specification interpretation.

  • Strong focus on customer satisfaction.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in a science or technology field.

  • 2 years of experience in preparing technical and/or administrative documents.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Courses in writing and communication are encouraged.

  • Excellent computer skills, including the ability to quickly become productive in using departmental and enterprise tools.
